More House offers an academic education to girls from the age of eleven to eighteen, joining the school at the age of eleven from local preparatory and primary schools or at an older age when their parents move into London. In the heart of London, but easily accessible from a wide area, the school is a Catholic foundation, open to all faiths, and it is a friendly community which reflects the international population of London.
Classes are small, the maximum size being twenty, so that every girl is well known to all her teachers. During the first school year all lessons are taught in the form group but as the girls progress up the school teaching groups become more flexible and small classes in mathematics, science and languages give all the girls the chance to learn at the most suitable pace. Nine subjects are usually taken at GCSE, with French as a core language; Latin and either German or Spanish are also studied by everyone. Bilingual girls who wish to offer another language are encouraged to do so, usually sitting the examination at the end of the fourth year.
The position of More House enables the girls to take full advantage of all the cultural possibilities of London and both art and music play a major part in school life. Our choirs give regular concerts and groups of musicians have travelled widely, singing in many of the great cathedrals of Europe. Girls enjoy a wide range of sporting activities, including the opportunity to run in the London mini-marathon, and there is a sports day every summer. During the summer term every year group has a week away from London, learning about a different environment and enjoying new physical challenges; this may be in Devon, Northumberland, the Lake District or abroad.
Parents are very welcome to visit the school by appointment.
